about

“Re:Imaginings in an exercise in recycling. About a year ago, I found some recording sessions on a very old hard drive. They were from a band I had in college, now long-defunct, that had only ever put out two songs in its short life. I love those songs, though, and my finding of the raw audio used to make them inspired a new idea: what if I made something entirely new out of that recorded material?

Hence the name: Re:Imaginings. Made almost entirely out of recycled audio, the experimental-electronic EP covers a lot of ground in its just 12 minute runtime- largely because of the diversity of the source material. You want guitars stretched to the point that they sound like synths? It’s in here. You like glitched-out vocal samples? We got that. How about a damn string quartet? Got that too. The boy even raps at some point.

As I got deeper into the creation of this EP, the subliminal reason behind re-using my old band’s audio files became clearer. Re:Imaginings is a meditation on failures, a critique of marriage and its cultural precedent, and a revelation that equates the creation of art with the pursuit of truth. The failures of myself to get my old college-band off the ground. A critique of marriage as a now 28-year-old seeing it become the focus of my peers. A revelation that a life spent pursuing art is in turn a way of seeking truth, and thus ultimately a life of worth.

This EP strives to breathe new life into old songs, and inspire new energy into old intentions. It is my hope that something within it resonates with you, the listener, as it has so deeply resonated with me.”

LYRICS

And after all is said and done
I still feel the same
Feel like it’s wrong
Like it’s dumb still
I get so down still
You’re not around anymore

Maybe it’s God that made you run off
To make up this life
Made it feel like
Like it’s love still
Are you in love still?
I still wanna know
I still want

Even with time
It still wouldn’t die
Means nothing now
But I keep it around
Only to hold still
I’m not enough, still
Don’t you think I know?
Don’t you? Don’t you?

Don’t you get tired of changing yourself?
Of finding your name in somebody else?
I see your face in the people I love
In the person I am, in the things that I know

I know you chose

But it’s not my place to say who’s right and who’s wrong
It’s something higher I can’t see how some people are
It’s something deeper inside me
Only to show at an arms length to the people that I claim to love
But that’s how it’s gonna be

I want you to know
But it’s hard to place the words I mean
Only the notion of hurt of the notion of love I need
It’s not wrong but I wanna mean it
I wanna know like you know, just how you know your own truth

Will these pieces align to give me something I can use?
Or only the time reimagined as something new?
I don’t know but I’m gonna find it
I’m gonna know what this all means, just what it means to find truth

I know what I want
To know there’s something I can
If only a drop in the ocean of something true
It’s not ’til I’m gonna see it, I’m gonna know where this all goes
How far I’ll go to find truth
