As Selkie explains, “Seeking is about keeping your eyes and heart open to welcome and embrace the unexpected in life. Finding the magic in seemingly insignificant encounters and events and knowing that there is excitement and wonder waiting for you at any turn if you are willing to receive it”.
The lyrics reflect the story behind the song, which was born in a period of mental and physical recovery: “I wrote Seeking three years ago when I was living in a small town outside of Glasgow. I was beginning to regain a sense of myself after a very difficult period during which a strong anxiety made me lose my voice. I suffered a constant breathlessness and lacked the energy to make the slightest sound to be able to sing or speak. After one year of daily meditation practices and writing piano music for hours as a self-prescribed treatment, I eventually began to recover my voice. This is when Seeking emerged, on a night when I awakened from a dream around 3am. I had a melody and lyrics circling in my head, so I got out of bed and quietly made a guitar accompaniment in the dark. The production bloomed from my initial dabblings with Logic as I explored the software and used something other than a guitar or a piano to enhance my songs.”
The earliest demo was produced at home when the song was initially written. It was recently taken into the studio to re-record vocals and legendary producer Pete Smith (Stevie Wonder, Sting, Sheryl Crowe) added final details to the arrangement.

I wrote and arranged the track almost all at once at home in Scotland, during my first ever babblings with Logic, and later recorded the washy, ethereal vocals in-studio in Berlin.
Selkie — Berlin, Germany — is the latest project from singer/songwriter Kristina Cox. Originally hailing from the west coast of Scotland and currently based in Berlin, Selkie's music takes inspiration from the natural world. Selkie describes her music as swaying like the ebb and flow of the ocean. The lush, and often dramatic backdrop of her homeland breathes life into her shimmering blend of electronic beats and electric guitar, as well as the spaces in between. Melding crystalline vocals and haunting harmonies with her knack for relatable storytelling, Selkie's ethereal dreamscapes won't just wash over you, they will pull you under and leave you gasping for air.
